Most of us who live in NYC are forever at the mercy of the Metro Transit Authority (MTA) and are forced to pay $2.75 per swipe to get to our destination. This adds up when you consider traveling to and from work and the occasional weekend galavant around the city. You can alleviate the financial burden slightly by buying a $127 monthly MTA pass. However, I have figured out a way to ride the train for a mere 13 cents.

How I get a reduced fare

What’s the secret to getting a cheap subway fare you might ask. A debit card. The Cash App debit card. Cash App is a product of Square, the company that makes those credit card readers you see in every coffee shop, and Jack Dorsey’s other company. Cash App is a peer-to-peer payment app that has an optional debit card. The card provides perks on purchases from various merchants, one of them happens to be the MTA. It offers $1 off at MTA if you spend more than a dollar.
